This video isn't terrible, but it gives be really big All Things Secured vibes, and thats really not a good thing. I agree, basically every VPN logs you, how do I know? Because when you look up what they DO log, all you get is websites screaming "NO FUCKING LOGS ASSHOLE STOP ASKING QUESTIONS". With that said, I said the word "basically" for a reason. Both the All Things Secured video and this video (both on the same topic) seem like they were made without every consulting anyone with any actual experience in computer science. You don't need logs for data transfer, a log is a stable (i.e. : non volatile) record of past calculations for the explicit purpose of direct or indirect future reference. To anyone who hasn't ever gotten into computer science, I'm sure that sounds minor, but its not, at all. The IP to send data from a request back to you, isn't logged anywhere, it would only be stored in memory on the VPN servers since logging it would create unnecessary function call to the slow HDD, SSD, or god forbid if your keeping lots of logs mag tape drives. This slowdown would either have to be parallelized in which case it would create an effect similar to a memory leak as more and more logs get queued for writing or it would stay procedural and cause very detectable slow downs which would either A get people to not use your service or B be noticeable as a logging process. This entire claim really is just unfounded contrarianism based upon a willful ignorance on what logging actually is and it does nothing for the actual security or privacy implications of logging VPNs claiming to be no-log. Basically every VPN you think of, keeps logs, I mean they offer really good services, used by millions, for low prices ALL while paying for rampant advertising, do you really think that turns a profit on its own? Hell no, they keep logs, track, and sell; they just make it sound like its all really minor necessary things and then pay shit tons to review sites to recite "NO LOGS" at you. (yeah by the way, VPN reviewing is extremely lucrative; VPNs only get high rankings through bribery basically) With that said, some VPNs are honest, mostly ones with less features and no advertising. Point and case, Mullvad, a no email or password VPN which goes in depth about exactly what they DO log, (hint, it aint much) gives you a DISCOUNT for paying with anonymous/secure crypto (and run their own btc node!) and, all in all, is exactly what companies like Nord claim to be. Sounds good? thats because it is and its also exactly why you haven't heard about it. Truly honest VPNs do not make enough of a profit to advertise extensively so if you want to find a vpn which is honest, don't look for "NO LOGS" look for "here is what we DO log : ", don't look for name recognition look for ones you don't recognize, and don't trust any VPN that gets top billing on more than 2 review sites, ESPECIALLY if those sites have a lot of name recognizable VPNs in the top few spots. Now, since I know some people will claim it, I have no affiliation with mullvad other than liking their service. It will not work for everyone, full stop. It lacks a lot of features, there is no password reset, etc; I only used them since I know and trust them to be what companies like Nord claim to be; no logs. (P.s.: If your using a vpn to watch region locked shows, just bloody pirate it, don't jump through all those hoops just to get access to something you are already paying for. If your paying for it, but its harder to access it, just pirate it; your already paying for it, they aren't losing any money. The most you can reasonably claim is that your watch won't be in the statistics so it might be harder for them to get future contracts with the streaming service but honestly the vast majority of viewers come from their native location anyway so thats really minor. ) 1:35 Oh also sentences like this make me think the video was just written by a bot its so bad. If the information your sending is not https then whether you turn on vpn encryption or not the vpn can see it since the vpn has to unencrypt it after transit anyway. Just, the sentence isn't even coherent when put in context. Anyone who even knows the definition of encryption and knows what a vpn is could tell you that, so a bloody tech channel is saying it is rather concerning. 3:30 is yet another prime example; a 3rd party audit is literally the same me paying you, to come by at exactly october 5th 7pm to check and see if my gas tank is full or not, you coming by, seeing it is full, and then me claiming my gas tank is always full. An independent audit is requested and known about by the company, so if they are keeping logs, they can just stop for a month, pay for an audit, pass it, and then start keeping logs again.

If you go by what they are legally allowed to push it as in YT sponsorships then yes, they are scams, because you can't get around geolocation restrictions by using them, all of them have every one of their servers IP- banned on a regular basis by sites like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Now, if you want to use them like I do mainly to encrypt your traffic and download millions of dollars/3TB's a month worth of illegal torrents without your ISP being able to detect it and bitch and snitch, then no, they are not a scam, so you left out reason #3. PIA is my favorite.

I think you missing the point of why using a VPN is of value, and I think you need to differentiate between a commercial VPN solution (like Nordvpn) and the use of a VPN tunnel like OpenVPN or StrongSwan IPSec. You didnt mention the value of being able to tunnel you internet traffic through a VPN to safeguard your traffic as it traverses an untrustworthy network (like being on a coffee shop open network) or why commercial VPNs may be able to log/view what sites your looking at (because the VPN tunnel only stretches from your device to the provider - point to point, from the provider its simply TLS/SSL encrypted traffic).

You forgot to mention that even if the VPNs server is hosted in a country like australia, it also comes down to the server location, not the country the VPN company is registered in/pays taxes. If you use a no-log VPN and use a australian server, the australian server is logging while the rest of their servers are not. If they don't, they get a fine and the company and product get banned from being sold in the country. So yes, the company as a whole isnt logging but the servers in countrys with mandatory logging laws are. e.g. expressVPN was unable to hand over logs to catch the assasiin as they didnt log but if the assasin was using a australian expressvpn server, they would have logs.
